Chicago’s most splendid season, set to music

As a lapsed west coaster, I didn’t know it could get this good. Summer is when Chicago comes alive. After a long and trying hibernation (read, 5-7 months of 30-degree weather!), jubilance fills the air.

There are street festivals, patios, beach days, bike rides, and so much more to fill the day. But the city itself is the real jewel.

Collaborating with the production team from WTTW’s Chicago from the Air, I edited striking drone footage to top-tier archival classical recordings to showcase the city at its sunny, stunning best.

Some of my favorite sites in the city are represented here — not just the soaring skyline of the Loop and the Beaux-Arts beauty of Grant Park, but also the painterly buildings of Garfield Park, the otherworldly Baháʼí House of Worship, the evocative pedbridges spanning Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable Lake Shore Drive in Bronzeville, and so much more.
