Crafting sound: Exploring the art of music and making

|

I am fascinated by craft. Seeing people at the top of their fields making things is both interesting and moving. I have long wanted to showcase the artisanship that goes into the making of music… before the music can even be made!

For an upcoming collaboration for WTTW-WFMT, I worked with a shooter/editor as well as a talented, up-and-coming violinmaker at A440 Violin Shop.

Over three fascinating days of shooting, we witnessed the revival of completely derelict violin from the 1700s. It was a joy to see the dedication of these artisans, to learn about the history and anatomy of violins, and to immerse in the hustle and bustle of a one-of-a-kind workshop.

Stay tuned for a video coming later this year.

Update 8/5/24: Enjoy the final video at this link — I hope you find this incredible craft as awe-inspiring as I do!
